What Materials Are Used in Our Jewelry?
All Opal Soul Jewelry is crafted in gold-filled metals, chosen for their durability, luminous finish, and lasting beauty. This allows us to create pieces that feel luxurious, wearable every day, and more accessible than solid gold, while maintaining a high standard of quality and craftsmanship.
In addition to gold-filled metals, our designs feature only genuine, high-quality natural materials. This includes semi-precious and precious stones, freshwater pearls, lustrous abalone shells, and carefully selected shells collected during my travels around the world. Each element is thoughtfully curated to reflect the textures, colors, and soulful beauty of the natural world.
Understanding Gold Finishes- Why Gold-Filled?
Gold-plated jewelry features a very thin layer of gold applied to a base metal. While beautiful initially, this coating is delicate and wears off quickly, especially with frequent use. As the underlying metal is exposed, gold-plated jewelry can irritate the skin and cause discoloration.
Gold stainless steel features a stainless steel core finished with a thin bonded layer of gold. It is resistant to corrosion and relatively low maintenance; however, it contains less gold and typically has a softer, less luminous finish when compared to gold-filled jewelry.
Gold-filled jewelry contains a substantially thicker layer of solid gold—at least 5% of the piece’s total weight—permanently bonded to a core metal using heat and pressure. This results in a more durable, long-lasting finish designed for everyday wear and enhanced durability against sweat and water.
In short: Gold-filled jewelry offers exceptional longevity, a rich luminous gold finish, and higher gold content than gold-plated pieces—while remaining a more accessible alternative to solid gold.
How do I care for my gold-filled jewelry?
To preserve the beauty and longevity of your jewelry, we recommend the following care:
- Avoid direct contact with strong chemicals such as perfumes, sunscreens, and active skincare products. Apply these products first, allow them to fully absorb into the skin, then put on your jewelry.
- Remove jewelry before exposure to saltwater, chlorine, or hot springs. Fresh water exposure is generally safe, though repeated long-term contact without properly drying can impact the gold layer over time.
- Gently clean with a soft cloth as needed to remove oils and residue. Polishing cloths are included with orders over $100.
- For a deeper clean, use warm water with a mild soap and gently cleanse using a soft brush, such as a soft toothbrush. Rinse well and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
Natural Variations
Due to the organic nature of pearls, shells, and stones, no two pieces are exactly alike. Variations in color, shape, and texture are a natural part of their beauty and make each piece uniquely yours.
Shipping & Order Processing
Orders are typically processed within 2–5 business days. Once your order ships, you will receive a confirmation email with tracking details. Delivery timelines may vary based on location and carrier.
Warranty & Returns
At Opal Soul Jewelry, we stand behind the quality and craftsmanship of every piece. All jewelry comes with a 1-year warranty covering any craftsmanship or manufacturing defects.
Please note, the warranty does not cover general wear and tear, including scratches, fading, or tarnishing due to improper care—such as exposure to chemicals, salt water, or excessive force—as well as lost or stolen items.
Jewelry is delicate by nature and should be handled and stored with care to ensure the longevity and beauty of your pieces. Proper care will help your jewelry remain as luminous and elegant as the day you first wore it.
Warranty Claims
To submit a warranty claim, please contact us with a brief description of the issue along with clear photos of the piece. Each claim is carefully reviewed to determine eligibility under our warranty.
If approved, the item will be repaired or replaced at no cost. In the event that the original design is no longer available, store credit may be offered toward a similar piece.
If the issue falls outside of warranty coverage, we are happy to provide a repair quote when possible.
Returns & Exchanges
We accept returns and exchanges within 14 days of delivery for all orders. To initiate a return, please contact us via the contact form and include your order number or proof of purchase.
Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer.
Custom and sample pieces are final sale.
Custom Orders

If there is a piece on the website you love but would prefer a subtle variation—such as a different length or color—feel free to inquire, and I’ll let you know what may be possible.
Please note, custom designs are created exclusively in gold-filled metals. At this time, silver or white gold are not offered.
